EU adopts the ‘forced labour regulation’
Nearly 6 months after political agreement was first announced, the FLR has been adopted paving the way for new EU rules prohibiting the placing of products on the EU market made with forced labour.
The regulatory model is based on a market access condition. Unlike other EU autonomous measures, the FLR does not introduce new due diligence requirements although due diligence at corporate level has a function in demonstrating that the market access condition has been met.
The entirety of the Regulation will enter into application on 14 December 2027, three years after entry into force.
